SATURDAY, NOV 21st, 2026

Expected START AND END TIME: 12:00pm-4:00pm

Opening Session — The Psychology and Physiology of Peak Performance

Why does the same weight sometimes feel completely different from one day—or one attempt—to another?

We will begin by examining the relationship between mindset and athletic performance, including the psychological conditions that help athletes approach demanding lifts as challenges rather than threats.

Session I — Building the Psychological Resources of a Weightlifter

Participants will explore the psychological resources that influence how athletes respond to demanding training and competition situations.

Topics will include:

  • Building stronger beliefs about athletic capability

  • Developing greater control over the competitive environment

  • Using previous training experiences productively

  • Understanding the coach's role as a psychological resource

Session II — Performing Under Pressure

Classroom concepts move onto the platform.

Participants will explore practical strategies for managing attention, emotion, physiological arousal, and self-talk during increasingly demanding lifts.

The session will include coached lifting and opportunities to experiment with different performance strategies in real time.

Session III — Goals, Expectations, and the Approach to Heavy Lifting

How an athlete defines success changes how that athlete approaches the barbell.

We will examine different ways of structuring goals in training and competition and how those goals can influence attention, effort, emotional response, and performance.

Participants will apply these concepts during coached lifting exercises.

Session IV — Responding to Misses, Frustration, and Adversity

Missing is inevitable. Responding poorly to a miss is not.

The final working session will examine how successful weightlifters respond to mistakes, frustration, difficult training sessions, and competitive setbacks—and how athletes and coaches can turn those experiences into resources for future performance.

Closing Discussion & Q&A

We will finish by bringing the day's concepts together and discussing how athletes and coaches can begin incorporating these strategies into everyday training.
